Jamaican Govt Endorses Volkswagen Ad

Jamaican Govt Endorses Volkswagen Ad

If This Guy’s Endorsement of the Volkswagen Commercial Can’t Calm People Down…… then certainly nothing can! None other than the official Minister of Tourism and Entertainment of Jamaica, Dr. Wykeham McNeill, has offered a full-throated endorsement of VW’s flagship 2013 Super Bowl commercial. Already seen be over 1.5 million people and counting, the commercial is mostly beloved.
But it is also scorned by a few. Why? As we covered earlier this week, it is because it is seen by some as making fun of Jamaicans; of being racially insensitive. But no Jamaicans seem to think so! And now that even members of the Jamaican government are siding with us on this, can we all agree to enjoy the ad?
Dr. McNeill released a statement saying: “I think this is a very creative commercial which truly taps into the tremendous mass appeal that brand Jamaica and its hospitable people have globally.” If he and Jimmy Cliff are supporting the ad (we assume Regae legend Jimmy Cliff is supporting the ad, for the record, based off the fact that he recorded a new version of The Partridge Family theme song for it), then indeed is time for everyone else to cool off. McNeill ended his statement with this: “I urge persons all across the globe to do exactly what the commercial portrays, which is to tap into your inner Jamaican and ‘get happy.’”
Enjoy it again!

OK, we’re drawing a line in the sand right now and taking a stance: anyone who is upset by the Volkswagen commercial for Super Bowl XLVII needs to take a deep breath, and count to ten. And then, if still upset, repeat that until you’re either calm or asphyxiated.
It’s a funny, charming advertisement, people! It celebrates Volkswagens, a Caribbean take on life, and making people feel better; it insults no one! Watch it again (which should be an easy sell – this ad is excellent and sort of addictive) and then please share your comments.
